Post-exilic Psalms: Psalm 89

Daily Devotions

The book of Psalms was not completed until well after the exiles had returned from Babylon. They came to life as Israel’s ‘prayer book’ in the Second Temple period– the temple re-built by Zerubbabel with worship practices formed by Ezra the priest. The several Psalms written after the exile (‘post-exilic’) reflect Jerusalem’s need for security and their realisation that their protection could not come from human kings, but only from their True King. Lauren van der Merwe, St Andrew’s Youth Minister, helps us enter into the life of some Post-exilic Psalms.
