Paul teaches that the churches should be marked by prayer, good deeds, care for the vulnerable, and a clear focus on the true gospel message.

The power of Paul�s example of Christian leadership before Timothy and Titus should not be lost. The Spirit empowers and enables. And all this happens, �not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace.� Paul�s example was not perfect, but it should guide and inspire his younger proteges.

Paul writes to Timothy and Titus to appoint the right people into leadership roles in the church. They are to be people of Christian character, gospel convictions, and with certain capabilities. People aiming for this sort of role in a church is to be commended. However, avoiding serving the body of Christ for no good reason seems to reflect a lack of love for the Christian community.

Timothy and Titus are called to step up into difficult church leadership roles. As disciples of Jesus Christ, he empowers them by his Spirit for every role or ministry. And so, Paul encourages them to stand firm, to persevere, and to be faithful,� and to get the job done. In a similar way, it seems that God gives each of his children some kind of role or ministry.
