The title of Mark’s gospel makes clear that it’s all about Jesus, who is the Messiah, the Son of God. Mark presents this message in an economical and direct manner that will be useful for the persecuted 1st century Christians of Rome. Mark’s economic use of language should never be thought simplistic. Instead, he invites the reader’s inquiry into Jesus’ claim to be the kind of suffering servant saviour Messiah described in the latter writings of the prophet Messiah.
The theme of God's creative power is repeated throughout the Bible. In our desire to know God well, there is no better place to begin than with him as our creator.
The Genesis 2 Creation Narrative gives us a picture of the state of affairs for which we have been created. This situation, depicted in the Garden of Eden, describes perfect peace in relationships'between God and his people, among those people, and people and rest of creation. When this situation is disrupted by sin, the Garden of Eden sets the scene for God's even greater Redemption Narrative: we have a window into our eternity with God.
The Garden of Eden narrative, before The Fall, plays a very important role in our understanding of ourselves. We were created to enjoy fellowship with God, but find ourselves frustrated by our lived experience 'outside the garden'. The Garden explains our unsatisfied longings, as well as providing a window into our future restoration. Stuart Holman leads this reflection on Genesis 2 for growingdisciples.net.au

Genesis 1 is a divinely inspired Creation Narrative, explaining God's relationship to his world, as well as to his people. In the first instance, Genesis is written for the people of Israel as they depart Egypt, as a corrective polemic which serves to reveal the uniqueness of Yahweh-- the one true God.
